Become a Volunteer

The Cafe on A is successful due to the dedication and support of our volunteers.  The Cafe on A has created an artistically positive environment where community members often walk in our doors and and say such consistent phrases as:

"I feel as though I am in a sanctuary and a safe place for creating and improving our community.”

Our welcoming first words to new individuals are:

“This is your house: Think of ways to make yourself, your family and the community better and we will support you or help you connect with community partners who may help you to make your vision become a reality.”

Our programs operate through the continued good will and consistent energy of new teams of volunteers.   We use the counsel of Father Boyle of Homeboy Industries who advised us to  seek out and help those “on the periphery” with the commitment  of unconditional love.  Thus, we see our mission to work as a community with the loving connection of volunteers to create transformational change in our community.

Our volunteers currently work with a wide variety of time commitments, and differing talents.  Our most dedicated volunteers donate their time and energy for ten to twelve hours a week, while some donate four to six hours a month.  They contribute in such areas as bookkeeping, technical expertise, web page support, Facebook support, mentoring, tutoring, graphic design, ceramic and other art workshops, video documentation, recruiting, outreach, public relations and fundraising support, in addition to actually designing and leading workshops for youth, seniors, immigrants, non English speakers, students with academic needs, health, nutrition and exercise classes, and any new need will generally bring new individuals willing to provide community service.

You don't need to be an expert to be part of the Cafe on A just need to have willingness to make a positive difference in the community.

The need to provide educational services, resources and programming to the Oxnard community is dire and immediate. The Café on A is one of the only community-based organizations that works directly with the working class and disenfranchised citizens of Oxnard. We help to uplift our community out from poverty and dysfunction, and into educational and vocational prosperity. Our resources are limited, thus we humbly and graciously accept your support for the work that we do. If you would like to support, simply click the donate button below. Remember that we are a non-profit organization, which means that your donation is 100% tax deductible!

Your support is greatly appreciated and will directly improve the quality of life for the underprivileged citizens of our community. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
